Arsene Wenger refuses to give up on title

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that there is a "strong possibility" of his side winning the Premier League title.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to admit defeat to Leicester City in the title race as the Premier League season enters the home stretch.

The Gunners sit 11 points off the Foxes in the table but have seven games of their season remaining to their rivals' six, meaning a theoretical gap of eight points should they win their game in hand - a home encounter with West Bromwich Albion later this month.

"Of course," Wenger told reporters when asked if Arsenal could still finish top of the pile. "Why not? As long as mathematically it's possible there's a strong possibility. You look at the difficulty of the Premier League, [Leicester] have been remarkably consistent, but every game is very tight so it could go the other way as well.

"Honestly, we know that we need nearly the perfect run. We know also that we have to not just look in front of us but behind as well, because we are being chased by a group of teams that could make it very difficult for us."

Asked if the bigger teams could learn something from the Foxes' fairytale season, Wenger said: "Of course - what we learn from Leicester City is what I knew for a long time. It's not just only down to the amount of money you spend, it's down to the quality of the player you bring in. The two aren't always linked."

First up in Arsenal's seven-match run-in is a tricky trip to London rivals West Ham United in Saturday's early kickoff.
