Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says that it "makes sense" to rotate his first-team squad for the EFL Cup quarter-final with West Ham United.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he will rotate his first-team squad for the EFL Cup quarter-final fixture with West Ham United.

Throughout the season, Wenger has made minimal changes to his starting lineups in the Premier League, while making mass alterations in both the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

Wenger has acknowledged that he will do the same for the showdown with the Hammers at the Emirates Stadium, claiming that it "makes sense" to rest some of his frequently-used players.

The Frenchman is quoted by the club's official website as saying: "Some players are a little bit on the edge. I think as well that we have so many quality players who did not start on Saturday, so you cannot say that you prefer to play a player who has played three games in six days to a guy who is at the same level and is completely fresh.

"The players who will start are basically all international players, so that's why I think [squad rotation] makes sense. You have as well to show the trust and the confidence that we have in the players who did not start last week.

Wenger has revealed that Theo Walcott will feature after not being named in each of Arsenal's last three squads for fixtures in the top flight.
