Arsenal's Jack Wilshere vows to 'stay strong' after undergoing ankle surgery

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere vows to continue working hard after being ruled out for three months following ankle surgery.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has suggested that he will continue to "work hard" after suffering a three-month injury layoff.

The England international required ankle surgery after picking up the injury during the Gunners' 2-1 defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

After Arsenal confirmed the news, Wilshere posted an image of himself from his hospital bed, with the message: "Ankle needed surgery in the end, went well thanks to the main man James Calder! Work hard for what you want because it won't come to you without a fight.

"You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive."

The midfielder, who has suffered numerous spells on the sidelines with ankle problems, followed up that message by claiming that his injury "looks like nothing" following the death of Australia cricketer Phil Hughes.
