Nigel Winterburn: 'Arsenal shattered by AC Milan defeat'

Ex-Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn thinks that Arsene Wenger will keep his job despite Arsenal's detrimental defeat to AC Milan.

Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn believes that the Gunners' confidence is "shattered" following their heavy defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg.

The Premier League side suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the San Siro last night, despite winning their last two visits to the Italian giants.

"Arsenal's confidence will be completely shattered," Winterburn told BBC Radio Five Live. "When Arsenal went to AC Milan in 2008, Wenger talked about how his team was very confident. Now in the build up to the game he talked of a team trying to rebuild."

Despite Arsenal's slim chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the elite competition, Winterburn is confident that manager Arsene Wenger's job will remain safe for next season.
