Arsene Wenger surprised by "electric" Danny Welbeck

Arsene Wenger admits that he was surprised by Danny Welbeck's pace as the striker scored three in Arsenal's 4-1 win against Galatasaray.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted his surprise at the "electric" pace of Danny Welbeck after the striker scored a hat-trick to help beat Galatasaray 4-1 at the Emirates this evening.

The England international struck his first hat-trick for the Gunners with Alexis Sanchez also netting against the Turkish side, and Wenger, who celebrated his 18th year in charge, was delighted with Welbeck's contribution in their Champions League tie.

He told reporters: "I didn't know he was so quick, honestly. I knew he was quick, but he can be electric. He is a team player, not only a finisher."

Welbeck joined Arsenal for around £16m on transfer deadline day.
