Bould, Vermaelen praise Gervinho

Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen and assistant manager Steve Bould have praised the form of Gervinho as the Gunners forward continued his scoring run against Olympiakos.

Gervinho opened the scoring for Arsenal as they beat Olympiakos 3-1 in the Champions League to go top of Group B.

The Ivorian forward has five goals so far this season, already beating the tally of four he managed in the whole of last season.

Bould told the club's official website that Gervinho is working hard and reaping the rewards.

He said: "He is scoring goals so his confidence is sky high and his link-up play is improving.

"He can play wide left, wide right, across the front. He is a good player, a danger, and good players can play anywhere."

Vermaelen admitted that he has also been impressed with the forward's goalscoring exploits in the early weeks of the season.

The Belgian defender said: "Gervinho is scoring a lot of goals at the moment, he looks quick and quite busy.

"He worked really hard in pre season and now he is scoring a lot of goals, I'm happy for him."

Arsenal return to Premier League action this weekend, with a trip to face in-form West Ham United on Saturday, October 6.
