Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. PSV Eindhoven

Arsenal injury, suspension list vs. PSV

For the first time in six-and-a-half years, Arsenal will play a Champions League match at the Emirates Stadium, as the Gunners welcome PSV Eindhoven to North London for Wednesday's Group B opener.

Mikel Arteta's side have not competed in Europe's elite tournament since the 2016-17 campaign but sealed their return to the big time owing to their runners-up finish in the 2022-23 Premier League season.

The Gunners have also started the 2023-24 campaign in impressive fashion, winning four and drawing one of their first five top-flight games and overcoming Everton 1-0 at the weekend.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with PSV, who lost 1-0 at the Emirates during last year's Europa League group stage.

Gabriel Martinelli

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: September 24 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Only a few moments after having a goal ruled out for offside, Gabriel Martinelli was taken off against Everton with a hamstring problem. Arteta conceded at his pre-game press conference that the Brazilian would not be involved here, but he has not ruled the Brazilian out of the weekend's North London derby just yet.

Thomas Partey

Status: Out Type of injury: Groin Possible return date: October 21 (vs. Chelsea)

Prior to Sunday's win at Goodison Park, Arteta conceded that Thomas Partey was still a few weeks away from making a full recovery from the groin injury he sustained in training at the end of August, and a comeback is therefore unlikely before the latter stages of October.

Jurrien Timber

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Former Ajax man Jurrien Timber is at risk of sitting out the entirety of Arsenal's Champions League campaign, having suffered a devastating ACL rupture on his Premier League debut, and he will spend another several months recuperating from surgery.

Mohamed Elneny

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: Unknown

Mohamed Elneny has been pictured on the training pitches as he works his way back from a knee operation, which he underwent in January, but he is still building up his fitness gradually and will not make a competitive return for a short while.

ARSENAL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Arsenal have no players suspended for their Champions League opener.
