Alanyaspor host Besiktas at Alanya Oba Stadium on Sunday in the second round of the Turkish Super Lig season, with both sides looking to build on positive results from the opening weekend.
Joao Pereira's side were held to a 1-1 draw by Gaziantep in their opener, while the visitors began their league campaign with a narrow victory over Eyupspor before strengthening their confidence with another convincing European win in midweek.
Match preview
Alanyaspor opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Gaziantep, taking the lead through Ruan after 20 minutes before Deian Sorescu restored parity shortly after the hour mark.
The result was not simply a case of the Alanya side holding on for a point despite having just 39% possession, as Pereira's side registered 11 shots and produced 1.25 expected goals, narrowly trailing Gaziantep's 1.28, and their ability to create chances without dominating possession could prove valuable against a Besiktas side expected to control more of the ball.
Ruan provided the clearest attacking encouragement, scoring with his only shot on target in the opening round, with his pace and directness expected to give the hosts an important outlet on the counter on Sunday.
The draw also continued a pattern from last season, when Pereira's side finished 11th with 37 points from 34 matches, winning just seven games while recording 16 draws, though their home form was considerably stronger, with six wins, five draws and six defeats.
They will also take confidence from their most recent home meeting with the Black Eagles when they stunned the Black Eagles with a 2-0 victory last August, managing that result despite having just 37% possession, scoring twice from nine attempts while the Istanbul side registered 15 shots and 2.31 expected goals.
Besiktas, meanwhile, began their Super Lig campaign with a 1-0 victory over Eyupspor, although Vincenzo Italiano's side had to work hard to secure all three points.
The Black Eagles dominated possession with 66% and registered 19 shots, although only five were on target, but more importantly, they limited Eyupspor to just one shot on target, continuing a defensive record that has been one of the defining features of their start to the season.
Besiktas are yet to concede in six competitive matches this term, with their latest clean sheet coming in a convincing 3-0 victory over Kauno Zalgiris in the first leg of their Europa League playoff on Thursday.
Hyeon-Gyu Oh opened the scoring after six minutes before Michael Murillo doubled the advantage six minutes later — Orkun Kokcu then converted a penalty shortly after half-time to give them a commanding advantage ahead of the return leg.
Italiano will now want his side to carry that momentum into the league, particularly given their impressive away record last season when Besiktas lost only four of their 17 away matches in the Super Lig in 2025-26.
However, Alanya has been an uncomfortable destination for the Black Eagles in recent years, as they are winless in their last six visits to this ground, drawing three and losing three, with their last victory there coming in 2020.

Team News
Alanyaspor will be without Meschack Elia and Ianis Hagi, with both players continuing their respective recoveries from injury, with Elia suffering an elbow injury during pre-season, while Hagi is dealing with a tendon problem in the groin area.
Pereira otherwise has the core of the team that started against Gaziantep available, and Ruan should retain his place after scoring on his debut, with Hwang Ui-jo and Arda Usluoglu expected to provide further attacking support.
Gaius Makouta and Maestro should continue in midfield, while Ibrahim Kaya and Florent Hadergjonaj are expected to retain their wing-back roles.
Besiktas have no major new injury concerns, although Italiano confirmed that Leandro Trossard suffered a heavy knock against Kauno Zalgiris, and medical checks showed no muscle or structural damage, meaning the Belgian is expected to recover quickly.
Italiano could nevertheless rotate his squad following Thursday's European exertions, though an advantage from the first leg gives him some flexibility ahead of the return fixture in Lithuania.
The visitors are expected to retain the 4-1-4-1 formation used in recent matches, with Kokcu operating centrally and Oh leading the line.
Alanyaspor possible starting lineup:
Victor; Lima, Aliti, Akdag; Hadergjonaj, Makouta, Maestro, Kaya; Hwang, Ruan, Usluoglu
Besiktas possible starting lineup:
Nubel; Bulut, Topcu, Djalo, Yilmaz; Ozcan; Cerny, Kokcu, Olaitan, Fakili; Oh
We say: Alanyaspor 1-2 Besiktas
Besiktas' stronger start to the campaign and superior squad depth make them the more likely side to claim three points at Alanya Oba Stadium, and we expect the Black Eagles to have enough attacking quality to overcome the hosts, making it back-to-back Super Lig victories.
