Ajax reject Atletico Madrid's Toby Alderweireld bid

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has revealed that the Dutch outfit have rejected Atletico Madrid's offer for Belgian centre-back Toby Alderweireld.

The 24-year-old, who has been linked with a number of European clubs this summer, is expected to depart Holland before the end of the transfer window.

"As reported over the weekend Atletico have made an offer, but it is not of the requisite level for a Belgian international and has therefore been rejected," Overmars told reporters at a press conference.

Alderweireld has been capped 24 times by his national team.
