Ajax vs. Cambuur - prediction, team news, lineups

Eredivisie champions Ajax welcome newly-promoted Cambuur to the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Sunday looking to maintain their 100% record on home turf.

On the other hand, the visitors head into this weekend's contest in search of a third consecutive league victory and a first away from home this term.

Match preview

Ajax made it three league wins from four outings as they saw off the threat of PEC Zwolle in a 2-0 triumph at the Mac3Park Stadion on Saturday.

Sebastien Haller opened the scoring for Erik ten Hag's men just shy of the half-hour mark, before making sure of the result with a quarter of the tie left.

De Godenzonen remain within touching distance of PSV Eindhoven - the only remaining team with a perfect record - at the top of the standings in their quest for a 36th league crown.

Saturday's hosts have also made a blistering start to their Champions League campaign following a 5-1 win away at Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday, thanks in no small part to four goals from Haller.

Buoyed by that emphatic win in midweek, the Dutch giants will be confident of coming out on top versus an opposing side who they have beaten in five of the last seven meetings between the teams.

Cambuur picked up a second home win on the bounce following a comprehensive 5-2 thrashing of fellow newcomers Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday.

After going behind to Luuk Brouwers's strike nine minutes before half time, Henk de Jong's men scored five unanswered goals through Marco Tol, Jamie Jacobs, Tamas Kiss and a brace from Tom Boere.

The Yellow-Blues have now recovered from consecutive defeats at the start of the season, winning the subsequent two games which has seen them rise to eighth in the standings.

Three weeks on from a 4-1 defeat to PSV in their last outing on the road, Saturday's visitors now face the daunting task of going away to another of the league's hotshot.

Team News

Davy Klaassen and Maarten Stekelenburg are ruled out of the game due to groin injuries, while Sean Klaiber remains sidelined with a knee problem.

Mohammed Kudus is also unavailable for the home side as he continues to recuperate from an ankle injury and still awaits his first appearance of the season.

Sebastien Haller has now netted 10 times for club and country this term, and the 27-year-old will be seeking to continue his fine form in front of goal.

Cambuur midfielder Jamie Jacobs has contributed directly to four goals in his last four outings, making him one to keep an eye on this weekend.

Tamas Kiss came off the bench to find the back of the net last time out and could be rewarded with a spot in the starting XI for his side's trip to Amsterdam.

Ajax possible starting lineup:

Pasveer; Mazraoui, Timber, Martinez, Blind; Alvarez, Gravenberch, Berghuis; Antony, Tadic, Haller

Cambuur possible starting lineup:

Stevens; Schmidt, Mac-Intosch, Schouten, Bangura; Hoedemakers, Jacobs, Breij, Maulun, Kallon; Boere

We say: Ajax 3-0 Cambuur

The home side are in imperious form at the moment, scoring goals at will and being solid at the other end too. We fancy them to come out on top in this one in a relatively comfortable manner.
