Clarence Seedorf: 'We lost match before half time'

AC Milan manager Clarence Seedorf believes that his side had "psychologically" lost their Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid before half time in the second leg on Tuesday night.

AC Milan manager Clarence Seedorf has revealed that Atletico Madrid's second goal on Tuesday evening "sapped the energy" away from his side as they suffered elimination from the Champions League.

Arda Turan's goal gave the Spanish outfit a 3-1 advantage on aggregate, and after his team failed to mount a second-half comeback, Seedorf has admitted that his players failed to react "psychologically" to falling behind at the Vicente Calderon.

The 37-year-old told Sky Sport Italia: "You could see after the second goal that the team struggled psychologically to react, as they often do. The second goal turned off the light and sapped the energy from the team.

"We analysed the situation together. Obviously the Champions League was an important objective for us and economically for the club.

"We had played well in the first leg and showed in the first half that we could play on a par with Atletico, but couldn't be consistent for the whole game."

The defeat leaves Milan to focus on trying to claw their way up the Serie A table after a disappointing campaign in Italy.
