Aberdeen edge Inverness Caledonian Thistle to tighten grip on second place

Ash Taylor's second-half goal gives Aberdeen a narrow 1-0 win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Wednesday evening's Scottish Premiership clash at Pittodrie.

Ash Taylor's second-half goal has given Aberdeen a 1-0 win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in this evening's Scottish Premiership clash at Pittodrie.

The hosts were quickest off the starting blocks as Niall McGinn cut across the Inverness box just before the quarter-hour mark before curling an effort just wide.

Aberdeen continued to threaten as the game went on, Adam Rooney charging forward and firing past keeper Ryan Esson, but Gary Warren was on hand to make a goal-line clearance.

There was nothing to separate both sides come the half-time whistle, but the Dons managed to open the scoring just after the restart, Barry Robson's corner headed downwards into the net by Taylor.

Inverness struggled to get themselves back into the game and were lucky not to concede again midway through the second half when Esson denied Rooney before McGinn fired against the post.

Aberdeen succeeded in getting the ball in the back of the visitors' net in the latter stages of the match, but Rooney's effort was disallowed for offside.

The hosts pushed on in a bid to get a second but were nonetheless happy to secure all three points come the final whistle, edging 11 points clear of third-placed Inverness at the top of the table.
