Derek McInnes: 'Aberdeen will do whatever it takes to progress in Europa League'

McInnes: 'We'll do whatever it takes'

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has revealed that his side have been practising penalty kicks ahead of their Europa League showdown with Groningen tonight.

The Dons played out a goalless draw against their Dutch opponents in the first leg of the second round of qualifying last week, meaning that another stalemate tonight will lead to a shootout.

"It's very finely poised," The Scotsman quotes the Scottish League Cup-winning manager as saying. "Nil-nil wasn't the perfect result for us at home, but it's not a bad result either, It's very important not to concede at home. It's game on and both teams will feel they can win this tie.

"We have practised penalties. We have a team who are fit and strong and we feel they can play 120 minutes if need be, even at this stage of the season. We'll be ready to do whatever it takes to try to get the result."

A tie with Real Sociedad awaits the winner.
