Exeter Chiefs thrash London Welsh

Exeter Chiefs beat London Welsh 52-0 to begin their Aviva Premiership season in resounding fashion.

Exeter Chiefs have handed London Welsh a heavy 52-0 defeat to begin their Aviva Premiership season in resounding fashion this afternoon.

New Zealand scrum half Piri Weepu made his debut for the Exiles, but he could not stop Thomas Waldrom from crossing over twice in the opening 30 minutes.

Gareth Steenson produced for the visitors throughout the game, converting all seven tries as Exeter dominated from start to finish.

After the break, another well-constructed try saw Henry Slade and Matt Jess make inroads before David Ewers got the score.

From then on, the result was a formality as Sam Hill, Ian Whitten, Jack Arnott and Chrysander Botha added to the total to round off a convincing victory for the Chiefs on the campaign's opening weekend.
