Salford Red Devils hold on to beat Wakefield Wildcats

Salford Red Devils beat the Wakefield Wildcats 24-18 in a closely-fought Super League encounter.

Salford Red Devils have beaten Wakefield Wildcats 24-18 in a close Super League encounter this afternoon.

Three first-half tries from the hosts did the damage, despite the Wildcats trying to stage a late comeback.

The visitors opening the scoring in the 18th minute through Jacob Miller, only for Greg Johnson to reply with his own try a minute later.

Tries from Weller Hauraki and Rangi Chase either side of half time gave the Red Devils a deserved 16-6 lead.

Paul McShane replied for the visitors, but the reduced deficit did not last long as Junior Sa'u went over to keep the home side up by two tries.

Both teams cancelled each other out as the match headed for the final whistle, but Craig Hall provided a nervy finish with his late try and conversion as Salford held on to record a six-point victory over Wakefield.
