Augsburg end Bayern Munich's unbeaten run

Bayern Munich's 53-match unbeaten run comes to an end away to Augsburg on Saturday.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have lost for the first time in 54 games with a defeat to Augsburg on Saturday afternoon.

The home side started very brightly and several of their players were finding space in behind the makeshift Bayern backline, but there were no chances early on.

It was the away side who had the first real opening of the game on 10 minutes as Xherdan Shaqiri went for goal from range, but with Marwin Hitz scrambling the ball went just wide of the post.

Then with the best piece of football of the half, Augsburg created a glorious opening. Paul Verhaegh spread the ball to Alexander Esswein, who in turn picked out the open Halil Altintop but his free header was tipped over by Manuel Neuer.

Five minutes later and the hosts were deservedly ahead. Daniel Baier won the ball in midfield, drove forward and then found Sascha Molders, who finished into the top corner beyond Neuer.

Bayern continued to struggle after the break as Mario Mandzukic chested down to David Alaba, but the Austrian's strike was skewed high into the stands.

In the end the champions could not muster another golden chance and their 53-game unbeaten run came to a disappointing end.
