British number two Aljaz Bedene battles past Radek Stepanek at Wimbledon

British number two Aljaz Bedene reaches the second round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career as he overcomes veteran Radek Stepanek in five sets.

British number two Aljaz Bedene has battled past Radek Stepanek in five sets to earn a place in the second round of Wimbledon.

The 25-year-old started the match in good rhythm as he battled well against the Czech and managed to put him on the back foot late in the first set to take it 7-5.

Stepanek bounced back in the second as he dominated proceedings, breaking the serve of Bedene twice to knock him completely out of the set, securing a 6-1 victory.

The 36-year-old's experience helped him take control of the match in the third as he carved out two break opportunities and was able to take one to edge to a 6-4 win.

However, Bedene responded in the fourth set as he found his best form once again with his groundstrokes to put the Czech under pressure and force a decider.

The 25-year-old held his nerve under pressure and carved out a break point which allowed him to seal his victory and a place in the next stage of the competition.

Bedene will play number 22 seed Viktor Troicki in the second round.
