AFC Wimbledon end winless run with Wycombe Wanderers thrashing

AFC Wimbledon end winless run

AFC Wimbledon ended their seven-game winless run in League Two by convincingly beating out-of-form Wycombe Wanderers 3-0 at Adams Park this afternoon.

Charlie Wyke, Sammy Moore and Jack Midson all scored after the interval for the Dons in a match in which both sides had men sent off in the latter stages.

With Wycombe only having taken maximum points from one of their last 10 matches themselves, the opening 45 minutes was light on chances with both sides short of confidence going forward.

The visitors came closest to breaking the first-half deadlock when Will Antwi's 10th-minute header was cleared from underneath the crossbar by Sam Wood, who flashed a 20-yard shot wide of the post moments prior to the break.

Wycombe's defenders could not repeat their last-ditch heroics when Middlesbrough loanee Wyke netted a debut goal by heading past a crowd of bodies on the line to give the Dons a lead that was soon doubled.

Moore drilled home a second on 76 minutes, and the contest was effectively over when Anthony Stewart was dismissed in the process of giving away a penalty from which Midson put Wimbledon further ahead.

Both sides finished the game a man down when Jim Fenlon was given his marching orders for a foul on Josh Scowen, but that proved to only be a minor blight on a good afternoon for Neal Ardley's side, who leapfrog Wanderers into 14th place courtesy of today's triumph.
