World Cup qualifier abandoned due to crowd trouble

The World Cup qualifier between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday evening had to be abandoned due to crowd trouble.

Saudi Arabia were leading 2-1 at the Shah Alam stadium in Selangor when play was stopped in the 87th minute after flares and fireworks were thrown onto the pitch.

Both teams then left the pitch as smoke began to fill the ground and they were unable to return.

The outcome of the match will now have to be decided by FIFA.
