Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen on signing Southampton's Che Adams this summer, with Julen Lopetegui looking to increase his team's potency in front of goal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in bringing Southampton's Che Adams back to the West Midlands this summer following the Saints' relegation.

The former Birmingham City man was a regular fixture for the South Coast club last term, making 28 Premier League appearances - 23 of which were starts - scoring five goals and providing three assists in the process.

Despite a steady season in front of goal for the attacker, he was unable to prevent the Saints from finishing bottom of the Premier League, meaning they will be plying their trade in the Championship under Russell Martin next term.

The 26-year-old has made 145 appearances for Southampton since making the switch from the Second City during the summer of 2019, scoring 31 goals, with his best goalscoring campaign coming in the 2020-21 term when he netted on nine occasions in the Premier League.

Consistent scoring in the top flight over the past four seasons is reportedly set to offer Adams an escape from the struggles of second-tier football, with Wolves keen on the striker according to Birmingham Mail.

Julen Lopetegui's men are understood to be in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer after a poor showing in front of net last term, meaning they were unable to achieve a top-half finish.

The Black Country outfit only managed 31 goals in 38 Premier League matches in the 2022-23 season, a tally fewer than any other side in England's top flight.

Veteran striker Diego Costa was brought in following his departure from Brazilian side Atletico MG in September 2022 to bolster the Wolves attack, however the former Chelsea ace only managed one goal in 16 league starts.

Winger Daniel Podence was the club's leading scorer last season with six strikes, however it is understood that Lopetegui believes that he needs an out-and-out striker to help his side progress.

Wolves are set to have a sizeable transfer budget to work with this summer, with a number of first-team defenders linked with moves away from Molineux ahead of next season.

Conor Coady completed a £7.5m move to Championship outfit Leicester City last week, joining up with fellow England international Harry Winks at the King Power Stadium.

Nathan Collins and Max Kilman have reportedly captured the attention of Brentford and Napoli respectively, meaning Wolves could have just Craig Dawson and Nigel Lonwijk as recognised options in that area of their defence.

Adams's last campaign in the West Midlands was an extremely successful one, as the Scotland international bagged 22 goals for Birmingham in the 2018-19 Championship term, earning the Blues' Player of the Season award and also being selected in the league's Team of the Season.
