Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Vitor Pereira has revealed that he has been "told" that Jorgen Strand Larsen is staying at Molineux.
On Saturday afternoon, Wolves suffered their third successive Premier League defeat of the season as they went down by a 3-2 scoreline to Everton.
With eight goals having been conceded in losses to Manchester City, Bournemouth and the Toffees, there is genuine concern over the qualities of the Wolves backline.
However, it is the future of star forward Strand Larsen that remains the hot topic of debate with the Norway international having been linked with Newcastle United.
Even with the Magpies having signed Nick Woltemade on Saturday, they remain in the market for another number nine at a time when it has been alleged that Strand Larsen has asked to join the North-East giants.
Pereira speaks on Strand Larsen speculation
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game on Saturday, Pereira indicated that the 25-year-old is in line to continue his career at Wolves for the foreseeable future.
The Portuguese said: "I hope so. He is an important player. Today if he plays his quality could give us something else.
"We are not in a situation to sell our best players. The information I have is that he will stay with us."
Strand Larsen was absent from the squad for the Everton fixture due to what has been described as a minor injury.
Hwang Hee-chan featured down the centre of the attack and scored Wolves' first goal, but it is the South Korea international's only top-flight strike of 2025.
Wolves waiting on Isak developments
Even though Wolves have set their stall out when it comes to keeping Strand Larsen at the club, they know that an offer in excess of the £60m that they have already rejected could follow.
Liverpool have allegedly put the wheels in motion regarding a £130m deal for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, and Eddie Howe would require a replacement.
Brentford's Yoane Wissa may ultimately prove to be Newcastle's preference given his lower valuation and added versatility across the frontline.
Nevertheless, Wolves could stay alert to market opportunities in the unlikely event that they can sign a realistic alternative to their leading marksman.
