Bruce: 'I could have turned Wolves around'

Steve Bruce has insisted that he would have kept Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this season.

The 51-year-old lodged an unsuccessful application to take charge at Molineux following the sacking of Mick McCarthy in February.

However, McCarthy's assistant Terry Connor was given the job and Bruce believes that the rookie boss has a tough job on his hands.

"I think I could have turned it around, otherwise I wouldn't have put myself forward," he told BBC Sport. "But they went another route and it's been a hard baptism for Terry Connor.

"I wish him the best of luck."

Wolves take on fellow strugglers Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.
