Wolverhampton Wanderers successfully overturn the decision to hand Matheus Nunes a red card at the conclusion of Saturday's fixture with Leeds United.

The Football Association has announced that Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes will not serve a three-match ban for violent conduct.

On Saturday afternoon, Wolves succumbed to a 4-2 defeat at home to Leeds United, the final goal for the visitors coming deep into added-on time.

Despite Leeds breaking clear to score after Adama Traore's shirt was pulled on the touchline, the goal was allowed to stand, resulting in angry appeals from the Wolves substitutes' bench.

During the exchanges which followed, unused substitute Nunes was deemed to have made contact with the assistant referee when remonstrating over the decision.

At the time, the Portugal international protested his innocence, and a video emerged later over the weekend which showed the assistant accidentally walking into the player.

Head coach Julen Lopetegui, who received an apology from referees' chief Howard Webb last week over a decision not to award his side a penalty versus Newcastle United earlier this month, stated at his post-match press conference that the club would lodge an appeal.

Nunes faced the prospect of being suspended for Premier League fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Brentford.

However, that will no longer be the case with the FA announcing on Tuesday that Wolves had been successful with their appeal for wrongful dismissal.

A statement read: "Matheus Nunes will be available for the next three Wolverhampton Wanderers games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

"The midfielder was sent off for violent conduct during the club's Premier League game against Leeds United on Saturday 18 March."

Meanwhile, Wolves have opted against appealing the decision to send off Jonny for a mistimed challenge on Luke Ayling, the Spaniard now missing the aforementioned fixtures in the top flight.
