Wolverhampton Wanderers keeper Aaron McCarey gets suspended drugs ban

Wolves' Aaron McCarey gets four-month ban

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Aaron McCarey has been banned for four months by the Football Association for failing an out-of-competition drug test.

It was announced in May that the 23-year-old had failed a test because a non-performance enhancing drug had been detected.

The ban has been suspended for two years and also backdated to April 21, 2015, meaning that McCarey is free to play for the Championship side. "I can categorically state I genuinely have no idea how the trace of the drug entered my system," McCarey told the club website.

"However, there is no disputing the tests which were carried out and I have accepted full responsibility and I apologise.

"This has been a very difficult time for me and my family, and I intend to learn from this experience."

McCarey joined Wolves in 2010 but has made just five appearances for the club.
