Mick McCarthy: 'There's no disgrace in losing to Spurs'

Mick McCarthy says he is "disappointed" but pragmatic about Wolves's defeat to Spurs.

Mick McCarthy has admitted that he was "disappointed" with the home loss to Spurs at the weekend but was impressed with his side's performance.

Wolves lost the game 2-0 but demonstrated strong ball control for much of the match.

"For 70 to 80 minutes of the game we were right in it and if we'd have scored a goal when we had the chances we could have nicked something," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"Losing to Spurs with their team is no disgrace but it's still disappointing. Spurs were a Champions League team last year - I don't know when we were supposed to be Champions League. Since when was this game going to be easy?"

He added: "They are far more advanced in the Premier League than we are and have better players than us."

McCarthy went on to warn that despite an overall good start to the season, with seven points from four games, they should avoid complacency. "Yes we played well against Spurs but we lost the game and I don't want to be that team we were two years ago when we had heroic failures."

Wolves next host Neil Warnock's QPR on Saturday.
