Kevin Doyle has said that Wolverhampton Wanderers were wrong to dismiss Mick McCarthy and should have kept him until the end of the season.
However, the Republic of Ireland international said that he understands why chairman Steve Morgan took the decision following the team's 5-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.
Doyle has also pledged his future to Wolves, stating that he would rather fight to be promoted than face another season battling against relegation.
"I won't make a rash decision on my future," said the 28-year-old. "Ideally I would love to be back playing in the Premier League but also I don't want to be relegated again. I would rather have a year in the Championship fighting to be promoted.
"I think they should have kept Mick definitely until the end of the season but losing 5-1 to West Brom is something that will never be let go. So when you're a chairman and that happens it must be difficult not to press the red button."
Doyle is preparing to go to the European Championships with his country.
