Aston Villa bid for Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia

Aston Villa have made a bid of around £10m for Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia.

The 25-year-old is being lined up to replace Stewart Downing, who is currently in talks with Liverpool.

Downing's exit would force the Birmingham club to find reinforcements on the wing, having already sold Ashley Young to Manchester United.

New Villa manager Alex McLeish has tried to sign N'Zogbia before during his time at Birmingham City.

The French winger has made almost 250 appearances in English football with Wigan and former club Newcastle.
