Wigan boss Roberto Martinez admits that he hopes to add three new faces to his squad before the start of the Premier League season.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that he would like to add three new players to his squad before the start of the Premier League season.

The Latics narrowly avoided relegation in the last campaign thanks to a late surge out of the drop zone.

While the Spaniard admits that keeping the core of that team is his main focus, three more signings would make up the "perfect number".

"The best news of the transfer window for us is keeping the core of the squad together, something that has been the main aim for this period and something we're all very excited about," said Martinez.

"Over the next week I want to see how the players return and respond to the work ahead. After that we'll look to make some additions to the squad.

"I do feel as though we need at least two players with experience and a younger face which will help to make the perfect number of the group."

Wigan start the new season at home to Chelsea on Sunday, August 19.
