Coyle: 'No bids for McCarthy'

Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle has reiterated that there has been no approach for Irish international James McCarthy.

The 22-year-old is believed to be of interest to Everton - now under the control of former Latics boss Roberto Martinez - and Tottenham Hotspur.

Coyle has said that he would not stand in McCarthy's way should a team with Champions League prospects come knocking, but has repeatedly stated that no offers have been forthcoming.

After today's 2-0 defeat to Manchester United, he said that the situation still remains the same.

"There will always be speculation about good players but that's exactly what it is, speculation," the 47-year-old told reporters.

"I'm quite comfortable in telling you I've not had any enquiries or offers. If I did I would be the first to tell you.

"We've got good players. I wouldn't be surprised if there was interest but at the moment there's nothing to talk about."

McCarthy joined Wigan from Hamilton Academical in 2009.
