Wigan Athletic earn comeback draw

Wigan get late equaliser against Donny

A late Leon Barnett equaliser has given Wigan Athletic a 2-2 draw against Doncaster Rovers in the Championship.

Donny had moved into a 2-0 lead at the break, but two second-half goals drew Wigan level.

The home side had an early free kick but Doncaster goalkeeper Ross Turnbull managed to get a touch to divert it away from Barnett.

The early stages were devoid of any real chances, although there was a high tempo to the game.

Stephen Crainey got down the left for Wigan, but his cross was headed out by Rob Jones before it could reach Grant Holt.

Holt was involved again soon after, but his side-footed shot was saved at point-blank range by Turnbull.

The former Norwich City striker then had claims for a penalty turned down by the referee.

However, it was Doncaster who took the lead through a Theo Robinson goal. The former Derby County man picked up the ball with his back to goal, before turning and shooting low into the corner.

Chris Brown added to the lead just before the interval as he headed home from close range.

Donny hit the bar early in the second half through Bongani Khumalo, who also put in a good block to cut out a Wigan attack.

Wigan got back into the game thanks to a Shaun Maloney free kick, which floated over the wall and into the corner.

Holt and Marc-Antoine Fortune both headed over for Wigan as Owen Coyle's side began to press.

The equaliser came from Barnett, who drilled the ball in from Fortune's cross.

Donny pushed forward again, however, and Billy Paynter, a late substitution, hit the crossbar with a header.
