James McArthur is desperate for Wigan to win their last game of the season at home to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur has claimed that the team needs to win their last game of the season at home to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Latics had their eight-year stint in the Premier League ended on Tuesday with a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.

However, McArthur wants the side to go out on a winning note ahead of the new Championship campaign.

"We need to try and look forward to next season now and try and get the club back into the Premier League," the Scot told the club's official website.

"We're looking forward to Sunday because it's a chance to go out of the season with a win and also show our appreciation to the supporters.

"It's important for us as players, for the fans and for the whole club that we finish the Premier League with a win to show that we mean business."

McArthur has scored three goals in 33 league appearances for Wigan this season.
