Owen Coyle says that his Wigan Athletic team are "fired up" for their Championship 2013-14 season opener against Barnsley this Saturday.

Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle has insisted that his players are "fired up" for their Championship opener against Barnsley.

The Latics, who were relegated from the Premier League under former boss Roberto Martinez last season, will travel to Oakwell this Saturday.

"We're fired up for the game but Barnsley are a tough side and towards the end of last season they were one of the form teams," Coyle said in a press conference.

Wigan will be competing in the group phase of the Europa League this season following their FA Cup victory in May.
