Wigan Athletic's James Perch wants Premier League return

James Perch hopes that Wigan Athletic will build on their FA Cup success this season by securing promotion to the Premier League.

Wigan Athletic defender James Perch believes that the team have shown their Premier League credentials during their FA Cup run this season.

The Latics beat Crystal Palace, Cardiff City and Manchester City on their way to the semi-finals of the competition, where they lost on penalties to Arsenal on Saturday.

Perch hopes that the Wigan players will build on their FA Cup success by winning promotion from the Championship this season.

"Saturday was a good marker of where we want to be, it's something we've done all season," he told Wigan Today. "That's four Premier League sides we've played, and we've beaten three of them and taken a fourth to penalties.

"That's where we want to be, and we need to use the rest of the league campaign to make sure we're playing them again next season. That would be massive for us, it's what we're aiming for.

"Most of the lads have played in the Premier League, and everybody wants to get back. Once you've been there you miss it, and hopefully we'll be back up next season."

Wigan sit fifth in the Championship with five games remaining.
