West Ham United sign Nene on free transfer

West Ham bring in Nene

West Ham United have completed the signing of Brazilian Nene on a free transfer for the rest of the season.

Jack Sullivan, son of Hammers chairman David Sullivan, this evening tweeted: "Nene is a [West Ham] player for the rest of the season."

West Ham also have the option to extend his contract by a further year if he impresses in the remainder of the season.

"I've been thinking about coming back to Europe for a few months because here the football, the ambience, everything is better," the 33-year-old told the club website.

"It's a really good challenge for me, to come to a competition like the Premier League. It's the most competitive in the world so this is the motivation for me."

The former Paris Saint-Germain wideman was a free agent after leaving Qatari side Al Gharafa.

His most successful spell in Europe came in Ligue 1 for Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, when he scored 49 league goals in three seasons from 2009 to 2012.
