Barton 'will be a bargain for West Ham'

Joey Barton's representative Mark McKay has told West Ham United that the midfielder would be a bargain if they choose to sign him.

The 32-year-old left Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season following their relegation to the Championship and is seeking a club for the new campaign.

Reports have suggested that he is training at West Ham, and could be offered a two-year contract at the end of the week.

McKay told the Daily Mail: "I've brought in Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho to the club and I'm confident West Ham fans can feel assured Joey will have a similar impact.

"He has been a crowd favourite at Newcastle, Marseille and QPR, and that's because fans see that he gives everything on the pitch. He's matured as a person and is happy to be part of a squad. He has experience that can help the promising players such as Reece Oxford.

"He's not just a central midfielder either, if you look at the stats, when Andy Carroll was at Newcastle, Joey played a pivotal role from the right of midfield delivering crosses for Andy to score. He's a free agent and will be a bargain for any club and hopefully that will be at West Ham."

Barton could be the Hammers' seventh summer signing.
