Stewart Downing would relish England recall

West Ham United midfielder Stewart Downing reveals that he would relish being recalled into the England squad for their upcoming games against Slovenia and Scotland.

West Ham United midfielder Stewart Downing has admitted that he would love to receive a recall into the England squad.

The 30-year-old has rediscovered his best form this season with the Hammers, and he played a pivotal role in rescuing a point for his side on Saturday in their 2-2 comeback draw against Stoke City.

Downing is hopeful that his recent displays will be enough to be selected in Roy Hodgson's squad for their upcoming matches against Slovenia and Scotland later this month.

He told reporters: "If he picks me it would be unbelievable. I'd love to play for England. I think the main thing for me is that I've got to keep playing well and if I can nick goals and create, it gives him a problem to think about.

"We'll see what happens next week. There are a couple of injuries there and I'll look at the squad, see what he does and who he picks.

"I know he's been to games and is watching us, so we'll see. That's my attitude at the minute. If he picks me, great. If not, I'll just carry on."

Downing's last appearance for England came against Norway in 2012.
