Aaron Cresswell elated with first goal in West Ham United victory

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell reveals his delight after scoring his first goal in the Premier League to earn them a 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell has admitted that he was delighted to fire his side back to winning ways in the Premier League in their 1-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Cresswell scored the only goal of the game in the second half at Upton Park, as he tapped home from close range after running onto Cheikou Kouyate's attempt to slot past Rob Elliot for his first top-flight strike.

The 24-year-old's effort was enough to fire Sam Allardyce's men to the three points and ended a run of three games without a victory in the Premier League.

Cresswell told the club's official website: "We had a look at the Villa game and we deserved to win that one but couldn't score, then we had a tough one at Everton, where maybe we could have taken something from it.

"So to get back to winning ways on Saturday was great. We've got another tough game at West Brom on Tuesday and we'll be looking to bring three points back from there.

"It was a good day all round. As a defender you can't ask for much more than a clean sheet. We got that and if you can get an assist or goal as well then great. I've scored my first goal in the Premier League and I'm very proud of that."

West Ham are fifth in the Premier League table following their win over the Magpies.
