Player Ratings: West Bromwich Albion 2-2 Sunderland

West Brom 2-2 Sunderland

West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

The visiting Black Cats took the lead early on through Lee Cattermole's superb 25-yard effort, before Saido Berahino equalised from the penalty spot.

Berahino then netted after the restart to give the Baggies the lead before Sebastian Larsson grabbed a late second for Gus Poyet's side to even things up.

Below, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed.

WEST BROM

Goal

Ben Foster: Could do nothing about the second goal, and was beaten by Berahino's smart penalty. Otherwise, it was a decent display from the keeper. (6/10)

Defence

Andre Wisdom: On-loan Liverpool youngster looked nervous towards the end as Sunderland pressed for an equaliser, and Patrick van Aanholt got the better of him for the second goal. (5/10)

Sebastien Pocognoli: Solid debut from the left-back. Put some teasing crosses into Sunderland's box in the second half.(6/10)

Craig Dawson: Made a vital clearance late on, but was unable to thwart Larsson for the equaliser. (5/10)

Jonas Olsson: The big Swede is not the greatest with the ball at his feet, but the man mountain got in the way to halt the Black Cats a number of times. (6/10)

Midfield

Craig Garnder: Forced Vito Mannone into a good save with a typically powerful long-range effort in the first half and made the second goal. Good debut against his former club. (7/10)

Youssouf Mulumbu: Typically tireless display in midfield (6/10)

Graham Dorrans: Looked as likely as anyone to get his side back into the contest after they went a goal down. Good first-half display. (6/10)

Chris Brunt: Went close with a long-range effort, but could not affect the game the way he would have liked. (6/10)

Attack

Saido Berahino: The star man. Was quiet in parts but took his chances when they arrived and he's off and running with two goals. (8/10)

Victor Anichebe: Was lucky to be given the penalty, although he used his strength when needed. Should contribute more in dangerous areas. (5/10)

Substitutes

Stephane Sessegnon: Came on as a late substitute against his former side. (5/10)

Chris Baird: Was brought on to see the game out, but the Baggies failed to do so. (6/10)

Claudio Yacob: Another late sub, was unable to get involved too much. (5/10)

SUNDERLAND

Goal

Vito Mannone: Made a good save to deny Gardner, and was assured throughout (6/10)

Defence

Wes Brown: Was composed throughout, a decent display from the centre-back. (6/10)

John O'Shea: Former Manchester United defender was powerless to stop the second goal. (5/10)

Valentin Roberge: Seemed to relish his battle with Anichebe, but gave the penalty away. (5/10)

Patrick van Aanholt: Was caught napping for the second, but made amends with the equaliser. Great play to set up Larsson on his debut. (6/10)

Midfield

Adam Johnson: Struggled to get in the game and was quiet throughout before he was withdrawn with around 15 minutes left. (5/10)

Sebastian Larsson: Sporadic delivery from free kicks, but scored the vital equaliser. (7/10)

Lee Cattermole: Scored one of the goals of the day and was robust and tenacious throughout. (7/10)

Jack Rodwell: Played some incisive passes and looked elegant on the ball, but needs more minutes as he tired in the second half. (6/10)

Attack

Connor Wickham: Was asked to play wide right, and struggled to halt some of Pocognoli's runs. (5/10)

Steven Fletcher: Had a goal ruled out correctly for offside and was always a threat. Could be a big player this season for Sunderland. (7/10)

Substitutes

Jordi Gomez: Came on for Rodwell and tried to change things for his side. (6/10)

Will Buckley: Was swapped for Johnson, but was quiet on his Premier League debut. (5/10)

Jozy Altidore: Came on with 10 minutes remaining for Wes Brown and Sunderland scored with their added numbers up top. (6/10)
