Half-Time Report: Saido Berahino breaks deadlock to hand West Bromwich Albion advantage

Berahino fires Baggies in front

Saido Berahino's goal on his return to the West Bromwich Albion team has given the hosts a 1-0 lead over West Ham United at The Hawthorns in the Premier League.

Andy Carroll caused problems for the hosts in the early stages and was unlucky not to break the deadlock when he drilled a loose effort straight at Ben Foster.

Despite a bright start from the visitors, it was West Brom who opened the scoring with their first clear chance of the game when the returning Berahino took advantage of some space in the middle to tap in Morgan Amalfitano's cross.

West Ham continued to look dangerous after falling behind, with Foster once again being forced to deny Carroll when the striker targeted the top corner with a powerful header.

Both teams continued to attack, but Foster's impressive first half was a source of frustration for the Hammers and Guy Demel, who saw a close-range effort blocked by the England international.
