Wales fan dies in "incident" at Wembley

A Wales fan died this evening after an "incident" outside Wembley before the Euro 2012 qualifier with England.

44-year-old Michael Dye was killed as a result of head injuries sustained in an altercation outside the turnstiles before the game. Six Wales supporters have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A post on the forum for Dye's preferred team Cardiff City FC confirmed the news: "The sad news tonight is that Mikey Dye (Ely Trendy) has died tonight after an incident outside the away turnstiles at Wembley.

"I would urge everyone to leave the whispers, rumours and stories going around the internet tonight where they are out of respect for Mikey's family members.

"I have been asked to put this message out from the club and I have also been asked to say that the club will give Mikey a send off on Saturday at the Doncaster game. The club officials have passed on their condolences and will do so again this Saturday."

A police spokesman said that emergency services arrived on the scene at around 7.20pm and confirmed that he died in hospital just before 9pm.

The game ended England 1-0 Wales.
