Team News: Danny Ward starts in goal for Wales against Slovakia

Danny Ward starts in goal for Wales

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward will make his first Wales start in their Euro 2016 Group B clash with Slovakia in Bordeaux on Saturday afternoon.

Inexperienced Ward, who spent the majority of last season on loan at Aberdeen, has taken the place of Crystal Palace stopper Wayne Hennessey, who has been ruled out of the clash with a back problem.

Elsewhere, Ashley Williams, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen all start in a 3-5-2 formation, while Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale will lead the line with support from Jonny Williams.

As for Slovakia, Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel skippers the team from central defence. Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik, meanwhile, also starts in what is a 4-5-1 formation.

Leading the line for the Slovaks will be Michal Duris, who has scored four times in 26 caps for his nation. Fellow striker Adam Nemec, who has six international goals to his name, is named on the bench.
