Gareth Bale: 'Winning most important thing'

Bale: 'Winning most important thing'

Gareth Bale has admitted that securing three points was all that mattered as Wales limped to a 2-1 win over Andorra in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier.

After the hosting minnows went ahead on six minutes with their first competitive goal in four years, Wales relied on two Bale strikes to turn the game around.

The Real Madrid star equalised with a 22nd-minute header, before completing the comeback with a trademark free kick nine minutes from the final whistle, and Bale has stressed the importance of victory over a good team performance as the expectant Welsh look to reach France 2016.

"To get us off to a good start is massively important for us," Bale told Sky Sports News.

"We ourselves have expectations. We want to qualify and if we are to, we have to come to places like this and get victories.

"[For the free kick] I tried to hit the sweet spot and luckily enough I did - the important thing for us was to get it out of the way and get three points."

Wales boss Chris Coleman has admitted that Bale "makes all the difference" to his side.
