Ernesto Valverde eager for Fernando Gago stay

New Valencia coach Ernesto Valverde has told Fernando Gago that he is an important part of his plans at the club.

The midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City, recently admitted that he was unhappy with the sacking of previous boss Mauricio Pellegrino.

"I count on him, because he is an important player who can do a lot for us," Valverde told reporters in Spain.

"Now I have watched him play well for the team, fitting in and looking good in training."

Valverde was named as Valencia coach for the rest of the season on December 4.
