Valencia vs Getafe - prediction, team news, lineups

Getafe will be bidding to make it three straight wins at the start of their 2025-26 La Liga campaign when they head to Mestalla on Friday evening to tackle Valencia.

The visitors have six points to show from their two games to sit fourth in the La Liga table, while Valencia are 14th, boasting only one point from their opening two matches of the campaign.

Match preview

Valencia opened their 2025-26 La Liga campaign with a solid result, drawing 1-1 with Real Sociedad at Mestalla, but they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Osasuna in their second match of the new season last time out.

One point from two matches has left Carlos Corberan's side in 14th spot in the table, and they will be determined to secure their first victory of the campaign ahead of the September international break.

Los Che finished 12th in La Liga last season, and they have been absent from the top four since 2019, so it is going to take a huge effort for them to return to that area of the table.

Valencia are unbeaten in their last three league games against Getafe, including a 3-0 success when the two teams locked horns in the corresponding match during the 2024-25 campaign.

Los Che have actually not lost at home to Getafe in Spain's top flight since April 2018, demonstrating the size of the away side's task on Friday evening, but the capital giants have started the season extremely well.

Getafe opened their season with a 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo, before recording a 2-1 win over Sevilla last time out, with six points from two matches leaving them in fourth spot in the table on six points.

The Deep Blue Ones finished 13th in Spain's top flight last season, and they have not managed to claim a top-half spot since 2019-20, so there is plenty of room for improvement.

Getafe are a team that do not concede many, but they also find it difficult to find the back of the net, so the fact that four goals have been registered already is a huge positive for the capital outfit.

Jose Bordalas's side are capable of pushing for a European spot this season, especially as it has been a very busy summer transfer window for the club, with Juanmi, Davinchi and Kiko Femenia among those to arrive.

Getafe have also managed to keep the bulk of their key players at the club, although highly-rated centre-back Omar Alderete has made the move to Premier League outfit Sunderland.

Team News

Valencia will be without the services of Jose Gaya, with the experienced left-back sent off against Osasuna, while Alberto Mari and Thierry Correia are out of the match due to injury issues.

Dani Raba and Arnaut Danjuma are expected to feature as the front two for Los Che, with Diego Lopez and Luis Rioja set to operate in the wide areas, but Hugo Duro is a genuine option to come into the XI.

There was a host of speculation surrounding Javi Guerra's future earlier this summer, with Manchester United said to be keen, but the midfielder has signed a new contract at Mestalla.

As for Getafe, Alex Sancris will again miss out through suspension, while Juanmi is a fitness doubt.

Borja Mayoral is an option to feature in the final third of the field, but Adrian Liso, who scored twice against Sevilla, is expected to be joined in the attack by Christantus Uche.

There has been speculation surrounding Uche's future of late, with the 22-year-old said to be a target for Wolverhampton Wanderers, but there is no deal agreed at this moment, and he could therefore feature on Friday.

Valencia possible starting lineup:

Agirrezabala; Foulquier, Tarrega, Copete, Vazquez; Rioja, Pepelu, Guerra, Lopez; Raba, Danjuma

Getafe possible starting lineup:

Soria; Dakonam, Rico, Duarte; Iglesias, Martin, Milla, Arambarri, Davinchi; Mayoral, Liso

We say: Valencia 1-1 Getafe

Getafe have been excellent this season, and we are expecting the visitors to be good enough for a point on Friday, as Valencia are yet to get going in the early stages of the 2025-26 campaign.
