Evans offered contract by Maltese club

Convicted rapist Ched Evans has been offered a possible return to football by Maltese outfit Hibernians.

The 26-year-old, who has been looking for a new team since his release from prison in October, saw his invitation to train with former side Sheffield United withdrawn following pressure from fans and club patrons.

However, Hibernians vice-president Stephen Vaughan has confirmed that his club have offered a contract to the Welshman.

Vaughan is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "We are looking for a top striker and Ched fits the bill.

"We've spoken to his agent and have offered a deal from now until the end of the season."

Vaughan formerly owned English non-league sides Chester City and Barrow.
