Switzerland confirm Michel Morganella expelled from Olympics

Switzerland have confirmed that right-back Michel Morganella has been expelled from the London Olympics after he made a racist tweet aimed at South Korea.

Reports emerged earlier that Switzerland had ousted Morganella following his tweet after the Swiss were beaten 2-1 by Korea yesterday, and the country's Olympic chief Gian Gilli has now confirmed this.

"As a member of the Swiss Olympic mission he gravely discriminated, insulted and violated the dignity of the South Korean football team and the South Korean people," Gilli said.

"As a consequence of this behaviour Michel Morganella, having conferred with the Swiss Football Association, is immediately stripped of his Olympic accreditation and all future participation in the Olympic tournament."

Switzerland are third in group B with one point.
