League Two round-up

Swindon Town edged further ahead of the chasing pack in League Two this afternoon with a 1-0 win over fellow promotion contenders Cheltenham Town.

Paul Benson's first-half goal was enough to give Paulo Di Canio's men all three points, a result which also meant that Cheltenham dropped out of the automatic promotion spots.

They were replaced by Shrewsbury Town, who were the only other team in the top eight to record a victory, beating Burton Albion 1-0.

Other promotion chasers such as Southend United, Crawley Town and Torquay United could only record draws, while Oxford and Gillingham both lost, the latter in a thrilling 4-3 defeat to Crewe.

Meanwhile, Port Vale, who entered administration this week, fell to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Barnet.

At the bottom, Northampton Town moved out of the relegation zone with a 3-1 win over Aldershot while fellow strugglers Hereford also picked up a vital three points away to Morecambe.

Plymouth Argyle and Dagenham & Redbridge both lost and now occupy the bottom two spots in the football league.

League Two results: AFC Wimbledon 2-1 Dag & Red; Bradford 2-1 Oxford; Gillingham 3-4 Crewe; Macclesfield 2-2 Crawley; Morecambe 0-1 Hereford; Northampton 3-1 Aldershot; Port Vale 1-2 Barnet; Rotherham 1-0 Plymouth; Shrewsbury 1-0 Burton Albion; Southend 2-2 Accrington; Swindon 1-0 Cheltenham; Torquay 2-2 Bristol Rovers
