Belgium send Sweden home with narrow win

Belgium have clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Sweden in Wednesday's Euro 2016 clash at the Stade de Nice to finish second in Group E.

Marcus Berg was first to register a concrete chance, latching on to a lofted pass from a set piece five minutes in and firing into the path of Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium threatened moments later as Romelu Lukaku forced a save out of Andreas Isaksson before building on their momentum to put pressure on Sweden's goal, but Erik Hamren's charges remained unscathed.

Despite further efforts from the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thomas Meunier, neither side could break the deadlock come the half-time whistle.

After the restart, Marc Wilmots's charges went from strength to strength and duly finished the game off late on with a 25-yard shot from Radja Nainggolan.

The result means that the Red Devils will take on Hungary in the last 16 of the tournament, while Sweden exit the competition with just one point from three games in which Ibrahimovic failed to score.
