Shelvey keen for Swansea stay

Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has revealed that he wants to remain at the Liberty Stadium to fight for a first-team place.

In December, boss Garry Monk accused Shelvey of being lazy, but after he netted his side's winning goal against Southampton on Sunday, the former Liverpool player has acknowledged that he needs to improve to hold down a regular starting role.

The 22-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I want to stay and fight for my place, that's the main thing.

"It's not just on the pitch that I've got to do it, but on the training pitch as well. Fingers crossed I can do it."

Shelvey has scored two goals in 21 appearances for the Swans this season.
