Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has revealed that he is "surprised" that Swansea City sacked former boss Paul Clement.

Clement was dismissed on Wednesday following the club's 3-1 defeat to Everton on Monday night, in which Sigurdsson restored the Toffees' lead.

Iceland international Sigurdsson, who played for Swansea for three years, told the Daily Mail that he was shocked at Clement's departure from the Liberty Stadium.

"They definitely had the right man in Paul Clement," the 28-year-old said. "He is a top, top manager. I'm really surprised they let him go.

"He is a fantastic coach and a fantastic manager. He is organised, speaks to you man-to-man. His training sessions are good, he's tactically aware of everything.

"He makes you feel good and, as a player, you want to play for that kind of manager. It is difficult when you are in that position. But anything is possible. You just keep going."

Swansea, who sit bottom of the Premier League, are four points adrift of safety.
